Splitboarding The Willows, Big Cottonwood Canyon- December 2022

The Wasatch received 40-70" of snow in the last week. It has been an incredible storm cycle! I had the chance to get out for a day and I took it. I managed a pretty traffic free drive up the canyon and to my amazement there was even a parking spot. I quickly got the boots and beacon on, then loaded up the pack and headed in.

The walk in was glorious! Lake effect snow coming down hard. It felt like being in a snow globe. As I made it around the corner after the first climb, you could see how untouched it all was. As I climbed the steep set skin track up Hour Glass, I spied my line and broke off from the skin track to break trail knee deep for at least a 100 yards! I topped out and made the switchover. Deepest turns I have had in three years! Such a nice ride home. So nice to be back in the mountains! Enjoy the pics and my YouTube edit below! Please like and subscribe! More adventures to come!

Porter Fork Tour, Millcreek Canyon- December 2022

It snowed to bring in December. I did not want to have to navigate the traffic of the Cottonwoods so I made my way over to Millcreek Canyon for a trip to Porter Fork. This is a cabin road that is closed in the winter and is like having a 1.5 mile groomer with some side stuff you can make some turns in. The walk up the road is sweet, in the shadow most of the time, and the cabins on the road look so cool in winter.

I had a very nice walk of the road. It was quiet and only a few skiers passed me as I headed up. Once near the top of the road I switched it over and headed down. It was acctually a pretty fun ride out and so nice to get the muscle memory down for making turns. That last day out I felt awkward on the variable snow on the exit. I felt much better on this day! December is here! I hope it keeps snowing! Enjoy the pics and check out my YouTube video from this day! Please like and subscribe! More adventures to come!

Albion Basin Tour, Little Cottonwood Canyon- November 2022

This has been a different start to winter this year than last. Last year I was still hiking peaks in the Wasatch Foothills and we had virtually no snow. This year November has December-January like coverage out there. I had a day to head up so I hit the slopes. The walk in was fun. It was new snow! Right before topping out I fell on the skin track. Its been a few years since I have done this! It was a wind blown spot that was ice but looked like powder. I’m fine, ego bruised more than anything. The subsequent two people after me did the same thing! I warned them! Views were beautiful up there today. A lot of wind transport out there going on. Trees creating mini blizzards as they unloaded their snow. Decent foot of settled powder that is sitting on a melt freeze crust that was bottomless facets below that crust. When we get a huge dump this is gonna up the danger. Ride home was pretty good. Wind blown powder with some chunder at the very bottom. Alta has scraped the bottom of the summer road almost to the dirt so watch out for the many rocks I saw on the way in today. #freebasegrinds Overall not bad for a mile up and some turns home. This winter has started out much better. I now have as many days on the slope this season as I got all last year. More snow on the way! ⛄️🤞🏂
