2022 Season Opener Backpacking

When its gonna be 80 degrees in March, I guess its time to go backpacking! I went close to home, and had a nice hike on the way in. It was hot, I mean really hot seeing it was in the 30's seven days prior. I put on the pack and headed in. It was a nice climb, snow an ice free all the way up to the first stop. I continued up and began to see some more mud and piles of snow in this shade. They view of the peaks was fantastic! The temps were pleasant and I could not be happier to be outside. I had to traverse a creek for about half a mile, there was ice, and it was sketchy in some spots. I did not bring traction, but no matter the new boots hung in there and got me up to my spot.

There were 2-3 foot snow drifts in camp, but just a large enough area was snow free for a tent and a place to put out a tarp. I got camp set then went and sat by the creek just soaking in its sounds. It was very relaxing. Dusk started to set in so I changed into the night duds and settled in for a nice nigth. The clouds were overhead so no astrophotography on this one unfortunately. I wasa hoping at one point, but alas the clouds ruled the night. After a bit, I shut it down and crawled in my sleeping bag for some much needed rest.

I slept kind of off and on all night as the wind raged outside from the south and you could hear it moving around the trees. Even some branches broke nearby in one set of gusts. It was not windy like this till after I turned in. It was pretty wild. I awoke about 7:30 and got up and broke camp as the water for coffee was brewing and I was eating the hard boiled eggs I brought with me. I was packed pretty quick, and made my way out to the Jeep. A great overnight trip to get things started for the season. Enjoy the pics and Youtube edit! More adventures to come!
