First Day Splitboarding 21/22 Season- December 2021

Winter finally showed up! We got some snow to finally cover up the rocks and dirt! I made my way up Little Cottonwood Canyon to just do a easy lap on the summer road and to get my first turns of the season. First days are like starting over between seasons. Getting the cobwebs out, getting the muscle memory dialied in, and remembering how to do this all over again.

The snow was in good shape but you could tell just off the road it was pretty sketchy as there were things not quite buried up yet. I decided to stay on the road and I would just drop in at the top to get down to the Jeep. It was a sunny day and the fresh snow was beautiful to see!

After getting to the top, I made the switch and dropped in to get some turns. It was soft, nothing to write home about, but it was nice to be sliding on snow again! Winter is here, and we need the water! More snow on the way for the holiday! Enjoy the pics and make sure you check out my YouTube edit from this day. Please like and subscribe! More adventures to come!

December Bells- Wasatch National Forest- December 2021

Winter just has decided to call in late this year. In an effort to avoid the laziness spell I fell into this time last year I decided to get out hiking one more time before the snow shows up. I made my way up Bells Canyon for a loop in December! That is insane really, I have never hiked in dirt boots before in my life in December in the Wasatch. The reservior is pretty much drained and all the leaves have fallen off the trees. But it was still pretty in its own right.

I made my way around the lake and then up in the drainage to keep my pace going. There were some trees that had budded new leaves because we have been so warm. I have never seen that in the Wasatch. Making my way creek side for my off trail ascent of the canyon, I watched cascading waterfalls with ice all throughout the creek. It was kind of a cool contrast to have this ice in the creek.

I made it up to the bridge and up to the wilderness boundary. I decided it was getting later in the day and I still had a few miles to get back to the jeep. It was a nice hike out. Cool, but pretty lighting. Crossing the bridge to head down I encountered a tree that Someone had decorated for Christmas. Now I surely would not endorse such behavior, but it was nice to see being the season and I hope folks clean it up after the holidays. If I am up there in the spring I will take it all down if it remains. The rest of the hike out was really nice! Warm for December, too warm. We need the water to help our drought.

Winter is supposed to make an appearance this week so if that happens I will get out for my first day on the splitboard. Fingers Crossed! Enjoy the pics and video! Check out my YouTube edit from the day. Please like and subscribe! More adventures to come!
