First Dayhike- Bells Canyon- March 2021

Well, we went from winter to instant spring. I figured it was time to dust off the boots and get out on the dirt path. I headed up the steep rocky west trail which was mostly snow free, some icy spots in the shade but very manageable. I love this hike! It is a good one for the heart rate and the new switchbacks they put in last year are amazing! As I continued to climb the views got better.

After about a mile I was standing at the lake. The ice was about half off of it and I could see rises. I put my fly rod together and decided to give fishing a try. I had one that I missed, and a bunch of rises next to my fly. Alas, nothing landed. Still fun to be tossing a line. The sun started to set to the west and I decided to pack it up and head out. The hike out was nice evening light and cool temperatures. Made me miss backpacking! A great day and a start of things to come! Enjoy the video! More to come!

Albion Basin, Little Cottonwood Canyon- February 2021

I got out for another beautiful day on the splitboard in the Wasatch! I went up Little Cottonwood to walk on the skins and get some exercise. After gearing up, I headed up the summer road. I popped into the trees and broke trail up to the top of the summer road. Then I made a short jaunt up to a spot with some nice views. It was really warm in the sun and I hung out for a bit before dropping in. I got some soft turns as I made my way back to the Jeep. Great day in the Wasatch! Enjoy the video! More to come!

Porter Fork, Millcreek Canyon- February 2021

With the avalanche danger high, I decided to just get out on the skins and climb up the Porter Fork road. It was just starting to snow from a light storm that was moving over us. I put on the pack and headed up the road. It was nice to be out in the mountains again. This is a beautiful area in the canyon. There was enough snow on the road to freshen up the surface. The climb was nice with the flakes falling. After about 1.5 miles I topped out on the road. The ride out was interesting as the snow was soft but a bit tracky. Still fun to be riding after being off for so long. Enjoy the video below and more posts to come!

Crestwood Park- January 2021

To beat the winter blues we as a family were looking to get out for the day and go for a walk. I did some reseach and found Crestwood Park which was near us. This is a beautiful preserve with some really nice views. We made our way over the creek and onto the path. This park has a 1.5 mile loop. Its only about 39 ft of elevation gain but it is really nice to just see what these drainages looked like before the urban sprawl. It was a great place to visit for the day and a great place is you are looking for a nice walk. Enjoy the pics, more to catch up in posts to come!

10 Year Anniversary!

It was 10 years ago this year that I started this blog. I wanted to share my adventures and photography from my travels in the mountians. I hoped to be a place people could come and read without all the madness that is often encountered on the internet. I honestly am greatful for all of the kind words, comments, and interactions with folks over the years. I'm sorry I have not posted in a few months. I have had some challenges and I had to direct my attention to until the task was completed. I am now strong where I was not. I generally don't share the personal stuff, but as for everyone else the last year has been difficult. I never in my mind think that I would have a journal that would last 10 years! My commitment here is to continue to share my adventures and photography to provide a place to remind us all how beautiful these places are. I want to thank you for all the love and support!

2020 Retrospective

Let Nature Be Your Guide.......
2020 was very challenging for me in many aspects. From personal challenges, to a worldwide pandemic, times of trouble were plenty over the last year. As tough as it got, I found balance and peace in nature. Honestly, the trail was probably my personal therapist. The wild reveals it all. It left no emotion untouched. I had days in the wild sitting by a lake, suddenly crying the tears for those we have lost. Days that I was overjoyed at the new places I was able to see and touch. A sense of accomplishment for the mountains I was able to climb, and the love affair with the dirt of the wild under my feet. Nothing was ever left unresolved on my journeys. It has been said that the trails you travel today become the paths of our future. Nature defines us, it heals us, it can destroy us, and is at the very root of who we are. When I found myself in times of confusion or fear, I let nature show me the way.

This retrospective video for 2020 was extra special all things considering. When you put an entire year of content together in a year like this one, it reminds me that even in the toughest times, life is beautiful and precious. The wild is powerful. It is mysterious. It is life changing. Change is not comfortable. It was never meant to be.

Be Kind. Stay Safe. Stay Human.

Happy New Year!
