Base Camp Salt Creek & Newspaper Rock, Bears Ears National Monument- May 2023
After such a long winter, it was time to head south and get the backpacking season under way. We made the drive south arrivng in Moab for a brief pit stop to get the permit and a BRFC (Bear Resistant Food Canister) which is required for overnight stays in Salt Creek of Canyonlands National Park. We then made our way south to connect with the Needles District road and to find our camp spot. We made a stop at Newspaper Rock which should be on anyones list if you are going to visit this area. It is quite the sight to see!
We then moved on to our camp site for the night so we would be up and early to start Salt Creek the next morning. We found one we really liked and set up shop for the evening. After the tents were pitched, we went for a hike on the min mesa above camp. The views were beautiful and it was so nice to be back in the wild once more
Evening set in and it was time to get dinner ready! We grilled up some steaks on my Smokey Joe and pan fired some onions, mushrooms, and asparagus to go with our steaks! So delicious! We then sat by the fire just happy to be in the wild. I shot a star trail and then we turned in.
This was a great base camp for such an epic adventure we had lined up. Enjoy the pics and check out my YouTube video from this camp below! More adventures to come!
