Parleys Overlook, Wasatch Foothills- February 2022
Winter has just been AWOL as of late here in the Wasatch. I have to stay active as I have a busy summer ahead of me, so I decided to climb the Parleys Overlook summit that I have had my eye on for years! I have looked at this dozens of times exiting Foothill and always wanted to climb this peak. Since the trails are snow free and the temps were cool, that this would be the perfect day to do it.
From the trailhead the trail went straight uphill for a 1/4 mile before junctioning with the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. It was muddy on the north facing aspects. After the second leg in the mud, I decided to just take a single track I could see straight uphill.
This was a very steep climb. But it was not long, so I was grateful for that. At one point I think this had to be 50 to 60 degrees grade as it was literally going straght uphill. Finally after a few zig zags through the leafless gamble oak, I was on top of the Parleys Overlook! The views both of the valley and up Parleys Canyon were spectacular! The wind was cold up here, it is February after all. I spent a little time up there filming and taking photos, then it was time to head down.
The descent was really steep! I took my time picking my way down on a different route than I has gone up. I am glad I made that choice as it was less steep and kind of ledged its way down giving you a break from just going straight to the bottom on that type of grade. After a bit I found myself at the trailhead feeling pretty good that I was able to knock that one off! A great day and. new summit knocked off the list for the year. If we don't get snow, and a lot of it soon, this party is gonna change real quick. Check out my YouTube edit of this adventure below and please like, comment, and subscribe! More adventures to come!
